Title: Solutions Manual 30: How to Paint U.S. Navy Aircraft of Early World War II Author(s): Andreia Rodrigues Publisher: AMMO by Mig Jiménez Subject: Painting and Aging Techniques for Aircraft Collection: Solutions Book Languages: Multilingual: English, Spanish, French and German Number of Pages and Description: Softcover, 66 pages with high-quality color photos. The Pacific theater of World War II was where embarked aviation, both Japanese and American, played a key role. From Pearl Harbor to the end of the war, battles between aircraft of the U.S. Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy were incessant. In late December 1940, the U.S. Navy ordered all embarked aircraft to be painted entirely in light gray. Then, in August 1941, the upper surfaces of aircraft belonging to the Pacific Battle Fleet were painted blue-gray, while the lower parts retained their previous light gray color. Over the following months, gradually more aircraft were painted in this livery. In February 1942, it was formally ordered that all U.S. Navy aircraft, both embarked and ground-based, be painted the combination of blue-gray and light gray. This initial camouflage livery remained in use until January 1943, when a new tricolor livery was introduced for embarked aircraft. This consisted of sea blue for the upper surfaces, intermediate blue for the middle part, and insignia white for the lower surfaces. With this solutions manual, you will be able to paint any U.S. Navy aircraft with the camouflage of the early years of World War II, including the iconic F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, TBD-1 Devastator, TBF/TBM Avenger, SBD Dauntless, and many others.
